Bibby Distribution has said it is too soon to comment on what impact the closure of discount supermarket Netto will have on its business.

Sainsbury’s and Danish retailer Dansk Supermarked Group, which relaunched Netto as a joint venture in 2014, said they plan to close the 16 stores in August.

The decision followed a review of trading data, expansion costs and the evolving food retail market.

Bibby Distribution secured a three-year contract with Netto last year, providing full frozen, chilled and ambient food logistics from a multi-retailer RDC in Scunthorpe. The contract win saw the operator move into chilled and frozen logistics.

A spokesman for Bibby Distribution said it would not comment at this stage.
