Unite has criticised Royal Mail for refusing to up a proposed pay increase, despite reporting a £608m profit in its latest results. DX Group has said that the shortage of skilled HGV drivers continues to affect its profitability as it continues to address its performance following a profit warning in November.
Fakenham, Norfolk haulier Jack Richards & Son has reported a 56% rise in pre-tax profit, and £2.3m rise in turnover, for the year ending 31 May 2012. The firm said the increase was down to a number of factors, including a slight hardening in rates, successful efforts to improve fuel consumption, a fortuitously-timed Christmas break and a number of new contracts that helped cut empty running.
