Turnover and profit at Welch’s Transport continued their upward trend last year, despite the Cambridgeshire haulier contending with a relocation and the driver shortage. Newly published accounts for the year to 31 December 2015 show that turnover increased by 8% year-on-year to £12.6m, while pre-tax profit rose by 39% to £166,078 in the same period. Express parcels and mail provider UK Mail Group says it is taking action to plug the gaps in its pallet distribution business UK Pallets. It reported a significant decline in operating profit from this division during the first six months of the financial year. United Pallet Network member DBL Logistics has secured £1.8m of funding from HSBC to expand the business with a new 50,000ft² Sheffield DC. Due for completion in January 2013, the new site will run in tandem with DBL’s existing 25,000ft² facility in the Sheffield Business Park, and the company hopes additional volumes will boost its annual turnover, currently £3m per year.
