At last year’s Clocs progress event in London, the Mercedes-Benz displayed cement mixer, tipper, skip loader and curtainsided variants of its Econoic to visitors.
The manufacturer now has some 22 Econics in operation in London on construction-based duties, and said levels of interest continue to grow.
“With a growing need for construction operators to look for a safe and risk reducing chassis, suitable for operation in busy urban areas where trucks, cyclists and pedestrians vie for space, the Econic offers a totally unique solution,” a spokesman for the manufacturer told Freightinthecity.
He added that the Econic, over the past 17-years, had already firmly established itself in sectors such as refuse collection, food delivery, roadside maintenance and in the fire service. However, today, some of the UK’s largest construction firms now run Econics on their fleets, including FM Conway, Cemex, Amey and Kier.
At this year’s Clocs event, Mercedes will be exhibiting three Econics in the liveries of customers Tarmac, SIG and CCF.
Sister brand Mitsubishi Fuso-Canter will display a Canter 7C15 hybrid dual-compartment refrigerated body truck at Clocs.
The fifth Clocs progress event takes place on 23 March at London's ExCeL.
