Stagecoach director Will Whitehorn will take over senior traffic commissioner Beverly Bell as the president of the CILT later this year. Whitehorn, who’s background is in aviation, will assume the role at on 20 May, after serving the institute as vice-president for four years. Beverley Bell, former senior traffic commissioner for Great Britain, has been awarded a CBE in the Queen’s 2017 Birthday Honours for her services to road safety and the freight industry.
The traffic commissioners (TCs) and the DVSA have urged operators to improve their approach to brake testing and maintenance after the DVSA revealed a quarter of defective trucks had a brake issue.
The industry has been given a chance to say whether the role and functions of the traffic commissioners are required, after the government launched a consultation into their work.
