Apprentices will play a major part at the FTA’s Logistics Skills Summit that takes place next month, with a focus on the association’s apprentices currently conducting a three-year scheme at operator Gist.

The Logistics Skills Summit, which takes place on 17 March at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena, also coincides with National Apprenticeship Week and will take an in-depth look at the skills shortage in transport and logistics as well as the steps needed to be taken to attract, recruit and retain staff.

June Powell, director of operations at the FTA, said: “Apprenticeship schemes have an essential role to play in order to encourage young people to enter a career in logistics. Much still needs to be done to make the industry more attractive and to help employers recruit and retain staff, and the FTA Logistics Skills Summit aims to address some of these issues.”
