Cemex UK showcased one of its 15 strong fleet of new DAF CF eight-wheel tippers at a Metropolitan Police Service Exchanging Places event at Canary Wharf.
The DAF tipper was used at the event, which took place on 29 January, to help educate cyclists about the difficult conditions HGV drivers face on city streets, and restrictions in visibility.
The tipper is one of six units in the new DAF tipper fleet fitted with low-height passenger door windows.
Designed by Astra Vehicle Technologies, the Vision doors [as Cemex has dubbed them] give drivers improved visibility of cyclists and pedestrians.
They also still allow for a retractable main window, giving drivers direct access to the nearside rear-view mirrors.
Driver visibility is also improved by the lower cab height of the DAF Haulage chassis.
Other safety features on board include advanced emergency braking, lane departure warning, vehicle stability system, side under-run bars, near-side caution boards, Brigade Electronics’ side-scan technology and a six-camera VUE system.
