United Biscuits is on the hunt for subcontractors to carry its products, according to head of distribution Rob Wright. Tesco has taken delivery of 25 new refrigerated longer semi-trailers in order to help it achieve its aim of reducing carbon emissions. It will operate the new trailers from its RDCs in Avonmouth, Livingston and Peterborough, and each can carry six more cages than a standard 13.6m trailer. Tesco fleet engineering manager Cliff Smith said: “That represents an increase in productivity of more than 13%, so the potential benefits in terms of reduced vehicle movements and lower emissions are obvious.” […]
APC Overnight expects to have its new £15m Cannock facility up to full operational effectiveness within the month. Cannock will replace the company’s existing facility in Essington, Staffordshire, and at present about 35% of the network’s business volumes have been shifted across to the new facility.
Acumen Distribution has put four more 15.65m longer semi-trailers on the road, taking the total number of trailers it operates under the DfT trial to 21.
