Bibby Distribution is set to open a new flagship depot in Wakefield next year, a move it described as a “reflection of confidence” in its future.

The new 280,000ft² site, which has storage for 39,000 pallets, will become operational in Q1.

Two major grocers will be the first to use the site, which will be located at G Park at junction 31 on the M62.

It will create around 100 new jobs for drivers and warehousing staff, and 90 vehicles will operate out of the site.

Bibby opened a separate flagship depot in Corby in May last year, but a spokesman for the company said the Wakefield site was not replacing it, and that both sites are to operate under the flagship title.

Nigel Tullett, director of corporate and strategy development said: “This new facility, the most modern ever operated by Bibby Distribution, is a milestone in our business growth, reflecting our confidence in the future of our operations.”

“The new facility at G Park is a crucial strategic development that will allow us to better serve our major flagship customers across the north of England. Bibby Distribution G Park will be a vital hub for our operations for many years to come,” he added.
