Challenging market conditions in the UK and Europe combined with the loss of a major fashion contract saw pre-tax losses widen and turnover fall at TNT UK last year. Royal Mail is opening eight temporary sorting centres to handle the expected rise in parcel volumes this Christmas. The centres will be dedicated to sorting a ‘significant proportion’ of the parcels handled by the firm before they are distributed to regional depots across the country. Temporary operations will be phased in across the peak period and will open in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Swansea, Bolton, Tamworth, Peterborough, Swindon and Greenford, west London.
