This month’s Freight in the City Expo will be showcasing the latest HGVs and vans designed for use in an urban environment.
The brand-new Iveco Eurocargo range of trucks will be making its UK show debut at the event. Dubbed “the truck the city likes”, the new Eurocargo blends a new design, interiors, technology and improved driver visibility. It can also be specified with a natural gas engine.
Also on display on Iveco’s stand will be a gas-powered version of its New Daily, which won the International Van of the Year 2015 accolade.
Dennis Eagle, specialist in purpose-built low-entry chassis, will be showcasing its Elite 6 Low Entry Chassis at the event and will be on hand to talk to visitors looking to use the design in construction and logistics operations.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks and FUSO Canter will be demonstrating two urban-centric vehicles at Freight in the City: the Econic with its ‘direct vision’ cab offers drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and third party users enhanced levels of safety and eye-to-eye contact; while operators requiring an economical vehicle with a small footprint and a high payload, might like to explore the FUSO Canter Eco Hybrid, which switches to a combination diesel and electric operation once a speed of around 6mph has been reached.
Keith Child, marketing director at Isuzu Truck (UK), explains how the product design of its new Euro-6, 3-litre 7.5-tonne ‘Urban’ that will be showcased at Freight in the City has drawn on the expertise and experience of its Japanese parent to create the ideal city delivery vehicle.
“Isuzu Motors Japan produces vehicles that are ideally suited for urban transport operations and stop/start deliveries within congested towns and cities. Low-emission, low-height, narrow cabbed, compact and highly productive commercial vehicles are what Isuzu concentrates on,” he said.
Daf Trucks, meanwhile, is offering something a little different to the mix for operators looking to deliver quietly into residential areas, perhaps in the early morning or late in the evening: the Daf CF Silent. Silent Mode is available on CF and XF models powered by the MX-11 engine. The system is engaged by the driver activating a dash-mounted ‘Silent’ button. Beneath the cab, engine software alters performance characteristics to reduce noise levels to less than 72 dB(A).
Volvo Trucks told freightinthecity.com it has been working closely with urban operators to deliver transport solutions that help reduce vehicle whole-life operating costs, lower emissions (including noise), assist compliance and keep drivers, cyclists and pedestrians safe.
On display on its stand will be two vehicles - an FE Low Entry Cab truck with a waste compactor body and an FM 8x4 tipper in the high-visibility livery of the Metropolitan Police, being used to reduce accidents in London via the ‘Exchanging Places’ cycle programme.
As well as vehicle manufactures, visitors to Freight in the City Expo can expect to find exhibitors spanning the entire range of city-essential kit and services, such as the latest fleet optimisation software, safety cameras, durable tyres and compliance monitoring systems. The exhibition will be complemented by a full seminar programme.
Freight in the City takes place on 27 October at London’s Alexandra Palace.
