The directors of Action Express launched a driver training school last week, with the promise that it will fully fund the training of 100 new drivers with a guaranteed job for those who pass their tests.
Although the company was set up in April this year, directors Elaine Harries and Syed Ziaullah hosted an official launch event for AE Driver Recruitment and Training at the Silverstone Circuit.
Its Jaupt-approved training centre in Northampton has three DVSA-approved driver trainers, who work with the centre’s recruits on a one-to-one basis in the cabs.
Harries said: “Last year we were a frustrated transport company having numerous problems with agency drivers, so instead of moaning about it we decided to do something.
“Our original focus was to attract more people into the industry by fully funding the cost of acquiring up to a C+E licence. That has been a success and our newly trained drivers are all working in logistics. We are also training drivers for logistics companies across the UK.”
Reece McCrea, 25, recently passed his HGV category C, and now works as an Action Express driver. He told MT: “I’d wanted to be a driver but it was too expensive. When I heard this company was paying for training and offering a job, it was a no-brainer.”
