Neil Lloyd, chief executive of loss-making delivery firm Yodel, has stepped down. Turnaround specialist Lloyd was brought in two and a half years ago, with the self-stated goal of improving the firm’s customer service and improving its public image. Keith Basnett has joined UK parcel distributor Yodel as chief operating officer after eight years in the same role with ‘digital department store’ the Shop Direct Group.
The GMB union has accused Yodel’s management of “playing the role of Scrooge and saying ‘Bah humbug!’ ” following news that full-time workers at the courier service will not be paid their December wages until they return to work in January, leaving many out of pocket for the period between Christmas and New Year.
Yodel has reduced and capped the amount of parcels it will handle during the Christmas peak, after the high volumes it experienced last year. The parcel carrier confirmed it will deliver a maximum of 4.25 million parcels during its busiest week of the Christmas peak to ensure that it provides a successful service for customers and parcels are not left undelivered.
