Wincanton has clinched a major contract with BAE Systems to supply its Military Air and Information (MAI) operations.

This latest win, which sees Wincanton extend its ten year relationship with the defence company, sees the Wiltshire-based firm provide goods management and inspection, storage and packing, and transportation services in BAE Systems MAI Samlesbury and Warton sites. The new contract will begin immediately, with around 150 people dedicated to BAE MAI.

Wicanton will also become the operator of a new purpose built Defence Logistics Centre, due to be completed in 2016, making the logistics company the first non-BAE Systems business operating in the Samlesbury Enterprise Zone. The move will consolidate operations, bringing cost savings for BAE Systems and will see Wincanton generate 70 new jobs for the local area.

This is Wincanton’s second major contract win with BAE Systems this year. The company was awarded a new contract with BAE Systems to provide full logistics and warehousing services in support of its UK shipbuilding operations in January.
