Abbey Logistics Group has moved to the next stage of its development, opening its first warehouse operation in Bromborough, Cheshire.

The company has also taken on UK Warehousing Association chairman Tony Mohan to help grow the company’s warehousing business.

The Liverpool based logistics company has also hired two warehousing managers from a regional rival to run the Bromborough warehouse.

Abbey chose the warehouse in Bromborough because of its proximity to a major, long term, global customer. The warehouse offers the company 70,000ft² of ambient warehouse space with the potential to increase this to 140,000ft².

Previously, Abbey partnered solely with Henry Diaper in Knowsley to offer warehousing facilities.

Speaking to Motortransport.co.uk, Abbey Logistics MD Steve Granite said Abbey will continue to offer warehousing facilities for customers in Knowsley as part of its ongoing partnership with Henry Diaper but would also look to grow its own warehousing operations across the country.

He said: “We have been looking to enter the warehouse market for a while. We want to provide a full logistics solution and although our partnership with Henry Diaper has worked really well, opportunities have arisen outside this geographical area and so we have decided to go out on our own in those areas.”

Granite said there are no geographical limits to its warehouse expansion plans. “It’s a blank piece of paper. We have 14 depots across the country already and we are not scared to set up in areas across the UK,” he said.

Mohan will play a key role in Abbey’s warehouse expansion strategy working. “Tony has spent a number of years working in the warehousing business. He brings lots of credibility and contacts and a lot of experience and knowledge to our business,” said Granite.

Abbey is also looking to recruit experienced warehouse operatives as it expands its operations, Granite said. “We have already recruited two experienced warehouse managers and will be looking for more recruits as and when we grow the business.”
