Vehicle rental firm Ryder has ordered 400 new tractor units to refresh its current fleet, along with 350 new trailers. The 6×2 tractor units are a combination of Daf, MAN, Mercedes-Benz and Iveco models. They are joined by 200 curtain-sider trailers, 100 temperature controlled trailers and 50 box trailers. DAF engineers to be behind the wheel when HGV platoon trial takes to UK roads within the next few months
The UK’s first on-road HGV platooning trial will begin in spring next year with a convoy of three wirelessly connected DAF trucks driven in the first phase by the manufacturer’s engineers, Highways England has confirmed.
At the CV Show 2014, contract hire and rental giant Ryder announced it was renewing a five year tyre supply contract with Bridgestone, covering most of its fleet of 25,000 vans, trucks and trailers. Ryder has exclusively used Bridgestone rubber for over 20 years, but 2014 was a watershed in the two companies’ relationship, which became a true partnership rather than just a long term supply agreement.
Parcel delivery firm Hermes has placed an order for 168 fully electric Mercedes-Benz eSprinters following the successful trial of two of the vehicles from its Enfield depot.
