Palletline has bought network member S&S Distribution, in a first for the pallet network.
The Tonbridge, Kent-based S&S Distribution is owned by brothers David and Ken Sanderson, and has been a network member for 19 years.
Palletline will retain the S&S company name and branding and work in collaboration with the existing management team, led by MD Richard Ball. While not unique amongst pallet networks, it is understood to be the first time that the Birmingham-based Palletline has bought out a shareholder-member.
The haulier itself was established in 1968 as S&S Services by Jim Sanderson, who died in 2010. His sons Ken and David joined the business in 1972 and 1979 respectively.
David Sanderson said: “Ken and I have been in the transport and warehousing business for many years and want to ensure that our customers and staff benefit from the continuity of working for a proactive partner that is innovative, supports companies, shares the very best industry practice and respects the independence of regionally specialist hauliers. ”
Ken Sanderson added: “By combining the expertise of Palletline with the excellent S&S Distribution and warehousing teams, we genuinely feel like we’re leaving our family business in the safest possible hands so we’ll look forward to seeing the company flourish moving forwards.”
The Sanderson’s will “take an active role in ensuring a smooth transition”.

“Together with our subsidiary, Palletline London, we will be able to further strength our market position in delivering excellent service in London and the South East.”
S&S Distribution’s pre-tax profit for the year ending 31 July 2014 was £208,000 on a turnover of almost £8m. This compared with £112,000 in 2013, with sales during the previous period of £7.6m.
The haulier, which is also a Hazchem member, operates two warehouses with combined space of 50,000ft². According to DVSA, it has combined O-licences authorising up to 61 vehicles and 60 trailers.
