Some 350 former City Link staff have signed up to bring a group employment action claim against the collapsed parcel carrier.

JMW Solicitors, the law firm handling the case, lodged a claim with the Employment Tribunal in March in the hope of receiving a greater compensation payout for some of the 2,500 staff made redundant when City Link entered administration in December.

A date for the hearing has not yet been set, but a spokeswoman for JMW said it expects to have a date confirmed later this month.

The group hopes to receive an additional eight weeks’ pay on top of the redundancy payment they are entitled to. JMW said former City Link staff who were employed at a depot with 20 or more people there can become part of a collective bargaining group.

City Link owed trade creditors more than £30m when it went into administration last year, with those affected unlikely to receive anything more than 2p in the pound.
