Commercial vehicle rental company Fraikin has made its biggest annual purchase of rental vehicles in a decade, with a three-phase order plan worth £13m for 2015 already underway.

The three phases of its investment plan will see the company buy more than 300 new vehicles by the year's end. Phases one and two have already been implemented, with the purchase of 216 rental vehicles.

A combination of Iveco and Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the new additions to Fraikin’s fleet stretch from 3.4-tonnes GVW up to 26-tonnes, ranging from vans to refrigerated vehicles and curtainsiders, among others.

The third phase of the operation, which Fraikin hopes to complete plans for this month, will involve a further 100 vehicles and amount to around £4m.

Fraikin operations director Mark Newnes said increased demand for rental vehicles had led to the sizeable purchase plan.

He said: “We’re seeing a huge uplift in rental demand across the country, and particularly in the South East. People have long said the rental sector is a good barometer for British business; if that’s true then the signs are very encouraging.”
