Tesco has gone live with a Microlise routeing system after a six week installation operation. Microlise installed both hardware and software for the supermarket giant in 2,500 vehicles across 19 depots over a period of six weeks. All new light commercial vehicles in Europe under 3.5t will have to be equipped to make an automatic call to emergency services in the event of an accident from 2015.
Tesco has taken delivery of 25 new refrigerated longer semi-trailers in order to help it achieve its aim of reducing carbon emissions. It will operate the new trailers from its RDCs in Avonmouth, Livingston and Peterborough, and each can carry six more cages than a standard 13.6m trailer. Tesco fleet engineering manager Cliff Smith said: “That represents an increase in productivity of more than 13%, so the potential benefits in terms of reduced vehicle movements and lower emissions are obvious.” […]
