Think Logistics will be hosting a stand at this year’s Multimodal event, to garner support from previously untapped areas of the logistics sector attending the three-day event.

New promotional materials have been designed, with scheme supporters such as Abbey Logistics, Brian Yeardley Continental and Cast UK stepping up to talk about Think Logistics’ objectives and activities to visitors at the stand.

Neil Caldwell, Think Logistics project manager at Career Academies UK, said: “This event will provide us with a fabulous opportunity to get our Think Logistics initiative in front of a whole new audience of potential business supporters.”

He added that work is underway to make the stand “stand out from the crowd”.

Think Logistics, founded by Abbey Logistics MD Steve Granite, is an industry-led initiative that involves experts working in logistics visiting a school or college to educate a group of young people on the industry and the opportunities that exist.

The scheme has set itself a target of reaching 1,000 students by May 2016.

Brian Yeardley Continental (pictured) has recently joined the initiative, aiming to run workshops in the Wakefield and Leeds areas. MD Kevin Hopper said statistics prove the logistics industry is "desperately in need of young blood" and Think Logistics provided an ideal platform to get the message across about the opportunities available.

"My wife and I attended a recent Think Logistics workshop and we were impressed with how it was delivered and the interest the young people attending showed in the industry. Brian Yeardley Continental started a young people employment initiative in 2013 and we have already taken on young people from the local community to work in our operations, warehousing and garage, so we are very interested in helping Think Logistics to promote our industry in schools and colleges," he added.

Multimodal takes place at Birmingham’s NEC from 28-30 April.
