Sainsbury’s has launched a grocery click and collect service at some of its supermarkets. Customers who shop for groceries online will be able to get their orders delivered to the store the next day for collection from a refrigerated van parked in the supermarket’s car park. Almost a third of logistics companies fear new B2C delivery methods such as click and collect, viewing them as a threat to their businesses, according to a report by Barclays.
Sainsbury’s has received accreditation to the FTA’s Van Excellence scheme, the 25th van operator to do so since the scheme began in 2010. The retailer runs a fleet of 1,400 vans, and employs some 4,000 drivers, and it satisfactorily achieved the standards laid out in Van Excellence code – which are agreed by a governance group of leading van fleet operators.
