Work on DPD’s £100m East Midlands hub has been completed, with the facility expected to be fully operational by next September. The 360,000ft² hub at Hinckley Commercial Park, Leicestershire, has 264 loading dock doors, 73,087ft² for mezzanine split over two floors and will have a Beumer automated sortation system which will run the length of the 5,059ft-long building. DHL Express is planning to invest £30m in its network of depots and hubs over the next four years. UK and Ireland chief executive Phil Couchman revealed exclusively to MT that the logistics giant plans to expand capacity nationwide as a result of demand for international express deliveries over the past 12 months.
Hermes has won a five-year contract extension with plus-size women’s clothing firm JD Williams, for handling UK and cross-border home deliveries. The extended deal, which will run until 2017, will see the parcels firm handling more than 15 million items per year for JD Williams’ 32 brands.
