Morrisons has extended the reach of its home delivery service to more areas in the North West, including Blackpool, Preston and Wirral.

The expansion follows the opening of a new DC at the Knowsley industrial park in Liverpool, which is operated by Ocado. The two parties signed a 25-year deal for Morrisons to use Ocado’s IT and warehousing space, but Morrisons operates its own fleet of vans.

It made its first home deliveries in the region on Wednesday (19 November), delivering to approximately one million more homes. It is offering customers in the region the opportunity to have their shopping delivered for free until 19 December.

Morrisons claims to have an on-time delivery success rate of 96% since making its first home deliveries in the Leicester region in January.

Products are delivered from Ocado’s fulfilment centre to hubs, before onward delivery to customers.
