Royal Mail is to open 10 temporary parcel sorting sites between now and Christmas to sort a significant amount of its peak volumes. The sites will be opened on a phased basis from today (3 November) and will be located in: West Lothian, Leeds, Middleton in Greater Manchester, Wolverhampton, Llantrisant in South Wales, Swindon, Greenford in west London, Peterborough and Milton Keynes. Royal Mail is planning a nationwide roll out of its ‘Delivery to Neighbour’ service in late September, to bring its final mile service more in line with competitors. Currently the only major delivery company not offering the service, it is awaiting regulatory approval from Ofcom, which will allow Royal Mail to deliver large parcels and items that require a signature to neighbours when customers are out.
