GeoPost UK, comprising of DPD and Interlink, showed robust financial health in 2013 with significant increases in turnover and pre-tax profit. Turnover at DPD rose by 24% to £492m for the year-ending 29 December 2013, from £397m in the previous year, while turnover at Interlink rose 12% to £179m. DPD is urging retailers to talk to their delivery companies about the potential disruption threatened by the Olympics later this month. The parcels giant is concerned that many retailers are still underestimating the extent of the upheaval the Games could create during peak times. Average truck operating costs have risen by a massive 75% since September 2000 while reported haulage rates were only 23% higher in July 2013 than back then, new cost figures from the RHA have shown.
Pressure on rates has led to Felixstowe-based container specialist Macintyre Transport reporting a 9% fall in pre-tax profit despite a near 11% rise in turnover. Turnover in the year to 30 April 2012 rose from £19.3m to £21.4m due to organic growth, said chairman Harvey Macintyre; pre-tax profit, however, fell from £895,000 to £813,000.
