Online fashion retailer Asos has said today that a fire that destroyed stock and disrupted operations at its Norbert Dentressangle-run warehouse in Barnsley cost it as much as £30m.
In a trading statement released today, Asos CEO Nick Robertson said: "Due to the fire at our Barnsley distribution centre, we lost sales during the quarter of between £25m and £30m."
The fire on 20 June at the DC forced the online retailer to stop taking orders until 2am the next morning whilst the warehouse was cleaned up.
Asos estimated at the time that 20% of its stock had been damaged by the fire and sprinkler system in the warehouse.
In a statement issued after the incident, Asos said police were treating the incident as deliberate.
