Public service provider Amey has put six 7 tonne Iveco Daily trucks into operation on its traffic management contract with the Highways Agency.
Iveco claims the trucks, which have its Daily 70C17 chassis, offer 250kg more payload capacity than traditional 7.5-tonners, giving Amey the ability to carry all the equipment needed for a 2km lane closure on the back of one vehicle.
The overall weight of the Daily has been reduced by using plastic and galvanised steel for the body and sub frame, and were designed in cooperation with Iveco, bodybuilder Acklea and Strongs Plastic Products.
Each truck has also been fitted with an on-board weighing system and a gate system that allows half of the cone well to be shut off for safety purposes, so that the operative can secure themselves while passing cones from the vehicle.
HGV and plant procurement and asset development manager Michael Wilmshurst said: “We currently have six vehicles in service and the feedback has been overwhelming. This vehicle is a game-changer for traffic management applications and highlights just what can be achieved when you apply fresh-thinking to an existing solution, and work closely with suppliers in the industry to make it happen.”
These are the first Dailys to enter Amey’s traffic management fleet. Amey operates 6,000 commercial vehicles in the UK, including Iveco Dailys that are used for mobile elevated work and tipper operations.
