Haulage consortium Harlequin Logistics has won what it describes as a long-term contract with tissue manufacturer Kimberly Clark.

The five-member consortium will be responsible for deliveries from Kimberly Clark sites in Chorley and Northfleet to its customer base in the Midlands and the south of England, ranging from retailer RDCs to wholesale and cash and carry outlets.

MD Paul Smith said that the asset-based approach of its five members: Currie European Transport, Jack Richards & Son, John Raymond Transport, R Swain and Sons and Prestons of Potto, was “vital” in securing the new business.

“Kimberly Clark’s products require high-cube kit, so their operation is ideally suited to our approach. Our network includes upwards of 1,200 three metre internal-height trailers, located across ten of our 16 depots, so we are able to offer them a very flexible solution,” said Smith.

Emma Atkins, UK transport manager at Kimberly Clark, added : “Our customers set high performance standards for all their suppliers, regardless of how well-known their brands are.  We are no different in this respect, and I am pleased to say that Harlequin has proved a capable ally on this front.

“Based on their good performance levels, we have already extended the original volume award, and look forward to developing our service partnership.”

Last year Owens Road Services won a two-year contract with the manufacturer to deliver to the south-west and Wales, while rival haulage consortium Jigsaw handles the distribution of brands such as Huggies and Andrex for Kimberly Clark.
