Former energy minister John Hayes been named as transport minister, replacing the outgoing Stephen Hammond.

Hayes, Conservative MP for South Holland and The Deeplings, has taken on responsibility for freight and logistics in this week's government reshuffle.

Hayes held the position of energy minister at the Department for Energy and Climate Change between September 2012 and March 2013. Since then he has been minister without Portfolio.

Six months ago, Hammond took back responsibility for freight and logistics from Robert Goodwill in a previous DfT reshuffle.

Hammond had held the post of Parliamentary Under Secretary for Transport since September 2012.
