APC Overnight is to add 45 new Cartwright double-deck trailers to its trunking fleet as it continues to expand its business.

The network said the order for the curtain-sided moving floor trailers represented the biggest investment in its trunking fleet to date and forms part of a series of “strategic investments”. They will be put into operation over the next three months.

It is also boosting capacity at its Cannock hub by installing an overhead parcel sortation system in addition to the sorter currently in place. It will be able to increase capacity by 15,000 to 20,000 parcels per hour, on top of the current system which can process between 20,000- 25,000 per night.

The investments follow plans to employ an additional 140 full-time staff at the hub by the end of September.

CEO Karl Brown said: “Having grown so rapidly since our business was formed 20 years ago, it is important we continue to show the same levels of ambition as we did the very day APC Overnight was born.

"By continuing to invest in the operational side of our business, we aim to allow even more UK customers to take advantage of our wide range of delivery options.”
