TNT Post is giving its customers the ability to monitor the status of their parcel and packet deliveries for the first time with the launch of a track and trace system.

The new service, called P&P InSight, is aimed at small e-commerce businesses and mailing houses with e-commerce customers.

It will allow customers to track the status of their delivery through TNT Post’s network until the parcel or packet is handed to another company for last mile delivery, unless TNT Post is making the delivery itself.

It will offer a daily status update, along with an online tracking portal.

A spokesman for the company confirmed it is the first time the operator has offered track and trace  across its entire operations.

TNT Post UK CEO Nick Wells said: “P&P InSight is another example of TNT Post innovation within the postal sector.  For the first time clients can track any item through our network via an online portal that’s really simple to use and also improves customer service by real time data helping answer queries quickly and efficiently.”

TNT is also awaiting the outcome of an investigation by Ofcom into its complaint about changes rival Royal Mail hopes to make to the terms of its last mile delivery contracts. Ofcom plans to reach a provisional decision by winter 2014, it said in a statement earlier this month.
