Fleet operators making deliveries into London will be hit by a steep 17% price increase for entering the Congestion Charge from next month, Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed today (28 May).
Following a 10-week public consultation launched in January, the price for registered fleet users (six or more vehicles) will rise from £9 per day to £10.50 per day, with the standard daily rate rising 15% from £10 to £11.50.
The new prices come into effect on 16 June.
TfL said the fee hike, which is the first rise since 2011, will ensure the Congestion Charge remains a relative deterrent to all but the most essential journeys into central London, as well as contributing £82.7m in the next five years for re-investment in the capital’s roads infrastructure and transport networks.
However, the RHA and FTA strongly opposed the steep price rise via the consultation process, stating that operators have no alternative but to enter the Congestion Charge Zone to make essential deliveries into London and the increase would place an unfair financial penalty on hauliers.
