A 316,000ft² DC is to be built at the Logistics Park neighbouring DP World’s London Gateway container port. The development is a 50/50 joint venture with industrial real estate developer Prologis and is expected to be completed by Spring 2015. The introduction of peak-time charges as part of the Port of Felixstowe’s vehicle booking system (VBS) has been described as unacceptable by container hauliers. The port has started charging hauliers £1.50 per booking for access between 12pm and 5pm but has suspended proposals to introduce the charge between 5am and 7am. Pentalver has warned there could be casualties in the container haulage market in the second half of the year as the sector struggles with low volumes. The warning comes as the firm reported turnover and pre-tax profit growth in 2011: Pentalver Transport saw turnover grow to £57.4m in the year, from £55m a year ago, while pre-tax profit rose to £2m, from £1.5m.
