DPD is to begin delivering parcels seven days a week to meet demand from e-commerce customers.

Its Sunday delivery service will be launched on 20 July and will allow parcels to be collected from businesses on Saturdays for Sunday delivery.

Online retail customers will also be able to offer consumers the option to choose Saturday or Sunday delivery for orders placed on a Friday.

The carrier will be able to deliver between 9am and 5pm on Sundays to around 98% of addresses in the UK.

DPD expects the service will create 500 additional jobs across the country in various roles. It is also creating more positions through the opening of 15 new or upgraded depots.

CEO Dwain McDonald said: “We know from talking to retailers and recipients that there is a real demand for Sunday deliveries. The majority of our larger customers in the retail sector are moving to a 24/7 operation, so we wanted to make sure that they have a trusted delivery partner that can provide a full collection and delivery service every day of the week too.”
