Carlsberg UK has submitted plans to open a 640,000ft² DC in Northampton, replacing two sites in the area.

Subject to approval of the plans, which were submitted to Northampton Borough Council last month, the operator hopes to move into a 48.2 acre site at the Brackmills Point industrial estate next year.

The brewer said the new DC will help it overcome capacity issues at its Swan Valley NDC and Heathfield Way site, also in Northampton. Both will be replaced by the DC.

It also hopes to create 50 full-time positions when the site opens and the 180 roles affected by the closure of Swan Valley and Heathfield Way will be relocated to the site.

Plans include a 585,000ft² two-storey warehouse, 26,000ft² of office space, 177 HGV parking spaces,  15 loading docks, and 30 level access loading bays.

A refuelling area, vehicle wash and external keg storage facilities will also be provided.

Norbert Dentressangle is responsible for all of Carlsberg UK’s primary distribution, including the management of transport out of its Swan Valley NDC. It is authorised to run 45 vehicles and 150 trailers out of the site.
