TNT Express UK & Ireland has confirmed around 50% of TNT Fashion Group UK’s dedicated network of distribution sites will be integrated into existing TNT Express sites as part of the DC rationalisation announced in January.

TNT Fashion Group UK currently has 16 dedicated distribution sites, of which it runs “four to five” itself with the remainder operated by subcontractors, a TNT Express spokesman confirmed. “About half” of the total number will be closed before the end of 2014, he said, “leaving us with a mix of in-house TNT sites and a couple of remaining subcontractor sites”.

The spokesman declined to name the logistics contractors affected but stressed that the closure of some subcontracted Fashion Group depots was “also presenting opportunities for some of those same suppliers to contract work at neighbouring TNT Express sites”.

Union Unite told Motortransport.co.uk that it remained confident the vast majority of the 130 staff at TNT Fashion Group UK likely to be impacted by the change would end up in jobs elsewhere in the TNT Express UK & Ireland network. The effect on staff employed by TNT Fashion Group’s subcontractors has not yet been established, however.
