DHL Supply Chain has won a three-year contract with Virgin Trains to provide transport for its on-board catering.

The £30m contract will see DHL’s food service business deliver products for the train operator’s west coast mainline, which stretches between London Euston station and Glasgow.

The operator will use its ‘Focus’ warehouse management system to ensure that stock levels remain visible to Virgin whilst storing its goods.

DHL will also manage the on-board dining.

Paul Richardson, MD at DHL Supply Chain’s Specialist Services division, said he was delighted that the operator has won its first rail catering contract.

Head of catering logistics at Virgin Trains Martin Phillips said: “Our goal is to be the best and most innovative rail franchise operator in the UK. To do this we needed a strategic partner who shares our ambitions and DHL provided a great cultural fit.”
