Royal Mail staff have accepted a deal with the Communication Workers Union to increase pay, job security and stability, ending the operator's lengthy dispute with the union.
Today members voted to accept an offer which will see an increase in pay in excess of 9%, over the three years to 2016.
Over 94% of staff agreed to the deal on a turnout of 57%.
Royal Mail chief executive Moya Greene said: “I am pleased that our people have voted in favour of the terms of the agreement. This is the first critical step to provide long term stability and certainty for Royal Mail, our employees and our customers.”
Among other legal protections, the agreement includes: not selling, outsourcing or transferring any part of its business; not franchising out any part of the business; remaining an end-to-end service provider; and employing predominantly full time staff.
“Now the hard work starts. Working together we will create a strong foundation for the continued success of our business,” Greene added.
