B2C parcel carrier Hermes is launching a seven-day home delivery service, which it hopes will increase its first-time delivery rate. APC Overnight saw record 30% increase in year-on-year volumes over the Christmas peak, the parcel network said. To keep up with demand, the network increased trunk levels by 35% compared to 2011’s peak figures and fleet numbers increased by 20% across its network of 115 depots. DX Group sales and marketing director Paul Doble has warned that online retailers are in danger of overwhelming capacity on their distribution networks in the run up to Christmas. Financial services firm Experian has predicted a 36% rise in online retail visits today and Doble said retailers should re-assess their delivery capabilities.
