Morrisons has begun delivering its first online food orders using a fleet of Morrisons.com-liveried vehicles.
The first delivery was made in Leicester at around 6am on 10 January, following the launch of its online offering across the Midlands earlier this month.
The launch follows a deal with Ocado last year, which also covers the operation of half of Ocado’s fulfilment centre in Dordon, Warwickshire, on Morrisons’ behalf. Orders will be picked from the DC itself rather than a supermarket and delivered to regional hubs, before being delivered to consumers.
A Morrisons spokesman declined to comment on how many vehicles it is running, but confirmed that the vehicles are being run by Morrisons itself and not Ocado.
Customers will receive a one-hour timeslot for delivery, charged at either £1, £3 or £5 depending on the chosen time.
The supermarket expects that it will be able to deliver to half of the UK by next year.
