Unite has ruled out any further strike action at UPS’s London depot for the remainder of the year.
The union, whose members staged a walkout last month at the Camden site, had been threatening to strike this Friday (20 December) over the dismissal of a Unite shop steward.
However, in a statement today the union said it had agreed to further talks. Unite regional officer Onay Kasab said: “After the management agreed to reinstate our shop steward, who, in our view, was unfairly dismissed, Unite has called off Friday’s strike at UPS’ Camden depot.
“Both parties have agreed to go to Acas early in the new year to resolve the ongoing dispute. The reinstatement of our steward is a victory for worker solidarity – and we will be going into the Acas talks in a positive frame of mind,” he said.
Unite has accused the operator of unreasonable workloads and alleged bullying of its 120-strong Camden workforce, something UPS has categorically denied.
A spokeswoman for UPS said: a UPS spokesperson: “UPS can confirm that operations at its facility in Camden will run as normal on 20 December 20, 2013.
"UPS will participate in brokered talks with Unite in the new year. We remain hopeful that a mutually satisfactory agreement can be reached."
