Philson Haulage was in rude health when it was purchased by Gregory Distribution (Holdings) earlier this year.
According to the company’s accounts for the year ended 31 May 2012, turnover at the temperature-controlled Sussex firm was up 6.7% at £7.5m (2011 £7m).
Having made a loss of £138,380 in 2011, the firm, which at the time of February’s deal ran a fleet of over 30 vehicles and employed 56 staff at its Chichester base, experienced a significant reversal reporting a pre-tax profit of £250,578 in the year.
At the time, Philson owner Phil Dickinson said: “The opportunity to become part of a larger family-owned business will provide the resources and support that are necessary for us to continue to develop the business in a dynamic and service-driven marketplace.”
While we’ll have to wait until next year’s results to see just what sort of contribution Philson has made to Gregory Distribution (Holdings), you can see exactly where the operator, which owns Kay Transport and more recently snapped up the business of Interoute Transport Services, places in this year’s Motor Transport Top 100 in the 18 November edition of Motor Transport magazine (they were 32nd last year).
