The government has put in its request to the European Commission (EC) to extend the rural fuel rebate scheme to ten more UK towns. Scotland features heavily in the list with Acharacle, Achnasheen, Appin, Carrbridge, Dalwhinnie, Gairloch and Strathpeffer all nominated. LPG trade association UKLPG has signed up as an official backer of FairFuelUK (FFUK), and has taken the opportunity to urge the government to make alternative fuels more affordable in next month’s Budget.
FairFuelUK and its backers were joined by 100 MPs at the Houses of Parliament on Monday [4 March], where 40 MPs signed a letter calling upon the chancellor to cut fuel duty.
UPS has pulled out of its €5.16bn offer for TNT Express – in a deal that would have created a business with a combined annual turnover of £1.3bn in the UK – blaming European Commission (EC) concerns with the acquisition.
