Yorkshire-based frozen food logistics firm Reed Boardall Group has taken delivery of 50 new trucks – all Volvo FH 6x2s with the Euro-5 D13C 500hp engine and Globetrotter cabs – as part of its regular fleet renewal programme.
The firm said the acquisition, direct from Volvo Trucks, was made as part of its policy of running a fleet of vehicles less than three years old.
The vehicles will be run at 40 tonnes GVW alongside the rest of the company’s 170 trucks and 230 refrigerated semi-trailers to deliver frozen foods around the clock from a wide variety of manufacturers across Britain, Europe and further afield to UK supermarkets.
Reed Boardall Transport MD Tom Cassells said the new trucks were "wonderfully enjoyable to drive, very easy, quiet, safe and ergonomic".
"Our drivers are very pleased with them," he added.
"It is important to keep our fleet as new, reliable and technologically advanced as possible – and never more than three years old," added group chief executive Keith Boardall. "We look at all makes, but Volvo consistently scores well."
- Costs associated with the opening of its new cold store last October had a significant effect on Reed Boardall’s profits for the year to 31 March. The group’s latest accounts revealed a 5.7% increase in turnover for the year, from £55.1m to £58.3m. However, there was a 35% fall in profit before tax from £5.4m to £3.5m. Aggressive competition had also put pressure on prices at the cold storage subsidiary, said the firm.
