Sainsbury’s has unveiled plans to develop an online fulfilment DC in Bromley, East London, to help meet growing demand from online shoppers in the region. The 185,000ft² facility will give the supermarket the capacity to serve an additional 20,000 customers per week in London and the South East and will be used specifically for online orders. Marks & Spencer (M&S) has reversed its plan to develop its third DC at DP World London Gateway, as it looks to find a more cost-efficient way of delivering its upgraded distribution network instead.
Union Unite has claimed that Morrisons’ plans to restructure operations at its Wakefield DC, revealed earlier this week, include the closure of a warehouse and changes to workers’ hours.
Wincanton has won a five year storage and distribution contract with children’s toy and furniture manufacturer Worlds Apart. Annually, the contract will see the firm deliver 20,000 orders to around 1,350 locations, including homes and retailers.
