Heywood, Lancashire logistics firm Yearsley Group has begun taking delivery of the first of 26 new trucks and 50 new trailers being added to the fleet to cope with additional business. The trucks, all 6×2 Euro-5 Mercedes-Benz Actros tractors, will be running at 44 tonnes GVW and will be based around Yearsley’s 13-site network as well as a dedicated NDC it manages for one customer. MEPs have narrowly voted through a proposal to introduce new legislation on maximum vehicle noise that would see most new heavy road-going trucks restricted to a maximum of 79dB(A) with new off-roaders limited to 80dB(A). The vote, held by the EU Parliament’s Environment Committee on 18 December, also moves forward a plan to introduce an obligatory labelling scheme to inform operators about the noise rating of vehicles in brochures and at the point of purchase.
