Amazon plans to open four more depots under its ‘Amazon Logistics’ business in 2014 to give it more flexibility and capacity.
The online retailer hopes to open four more regional sites at undisclosed locations in the North West, South W est, the Midlands and Yorkshire, in addition to sites already operational in Oxford, Birmingham, Milton Keynes and London.
The 50,000ft² sites will act as hubs for local areas, on top of its NDCs in Dunfermline, Gourock, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Rugeley and Swansea Bay.
A spokeswoman for the retailer said the sites will be used to “compliment the work of our existing carrier partners, and to ensure we continue to deliver for customers”.
“These stations provide more capacity and flexibility within our delivery network and will fulfil orders across all Amazon’s delivery options,” she added.
Amazon, which recently launched a recruitment drive for warehouse staff, says the sites will potentially create 1,000 jobs at the carriers it uses to deliver items to customers, as well as 75 new positions at Amazon.
