Stobart Group’s Biomass division has won a 15-year contract with Western Bioenergy to supply 150,000 tonnes of biomass a year to its plant in Port Talbot, Wales. Furthermore Stobart has invested an £800,000 equity and debt stake in the project, alongside Greensphere Capital, which owns Western Bioenergy. Stobart Group has reported a busy Christmas in its transport and distribution businesses, as EBIT (earnings before interest and tax) for the final four months of 2013 grew.
20) Andrew Tinkler, chief executive, Stobart Group Tinkler strengthened his position at the top of Britain’s best known haulage firm at the beginning of 2013. He survived an attempted boardroom coup, that could have seen former Autologic boss Avril Palmer-Baunick take charge of the group as a whole, potentially breaking up its constituent, multi-modal parts. That came to nothing in the end and Tinker was able to calm the waters, as Palmer-Baunick left in May.
