Bill Hanley died suddenly on 9 August, aged 81. Hanley played a key role in developing the TNT Express business. He was a director of Inter County Expressand remained with the company when the directors accepted a takeover offer from TNT in back in 1978, this led to him taking on various senior management roles at TNT UK. Although research and development (R&D) and logistics aren’t obvious bedfellows, the clever bods at Baker Tilly have pointed out that despite investment in R&D by UK companies having tripled in the past decade to £1.2bn, the amount of tax relief claimed by those in road transport remains nominal.
